In the 1980s, coaxial cables were used to connect computers and networks. The network topology, back in the day were classified as Thicknet and Thinnet. The Thicknet was the part connecting the networks, also referred to as the backbone.The Thinnet was the part involving drop cables connecting computers with a networks.

Coaxial cables are now used for television or connecting modems or routers with the broadband internet routes.

The coaxial cable has an inner core and outer braided insulating wire.
